PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia (Telkomsat) officially initiated a strategic step in strengthening national telecommunications infrastructure through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNIVITY. This partnership focuses on the exploration and development of cutting-edge space-based connectivity technology to address Indonesia's geographical challenges.
The main focus of this collaboration includes studying Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) architecture and Direct-to-Device services. Both companies will combine their technical expertise to create a more adaptive network solution, integrating domestic ground station infrastructure to align with the national data sovereignty framework.
Additionally, Telkomsat and UNIVITY will evaluate the potential of a hybrid multi-orbit system. By combining the resilience of Telkomsat's geostationary satellite network with UNIVITY's VLEO system, it is expected to create a more robust and secure communication ecosystem, particularly to support the public sector and strategic national security needs.
Telkomsat's Director of Development, Anggoro K. Widiawan, emphasized that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to expand digital reach to remote corners of the country. Echoing this sentiment, Founder and CEO of UNIVITY, Charles Delfieux, sees the Indonesian market as a dynamic ground for the convergence of terrestrial and space-based networks capable of delivering high-speed access with low latency.
