Two hikers previously reported missing in the Mount Jantan area, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands, have finally been found safe. An intensive search operation was conducted by a joint SAR team after the two young men lost their way while hiking.
The incident began when the two hikers, named M. Rizki and Dika, started their journey on Thursday (9/7/2026) afternoon. However, the situation turned grim when they reported via phone around 21:00 WIB that they were lost. Communication was ultimately completely lost because their mobile phone ran out of battery power.
Responding to the emergency report at 22:33 WIB, a Rescue Team from the Tanjung Balai Karimun SAR Post was immediately deployed to the location to launch the search operation. In an effort to comb through the dark climbing terrain, the rescue team made optimal use of thermal drone technology to track the victims' whereabouts through body temperature detection.
The tactical effort paid off in the early hours of Friday (10/7/2026). At around 00:40 WIB, the two hikers were found not far from the main trail, precisely about 50 meters from the first climbing post. After being confirmed in good health, they were immediately evacuated to the SAR command post to be handed over to their families.
The entire search operation was officially called off by the relevant authorities at 01:10 WIB after everyone was declared safe. This incident serves as a reminder to the hiking community to always prepare navigation equipment and backup power before engaging in outdoor activities.
