A tragic incident struck Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao in Bangkok's Chatuchak District on Sunday night (12/07/2026). A massive fire that broke out shortly before midnight triggered mass panic when flames originating near the stage area caused a power failure and an explosion, followed by thick plumes of smoke throughout the venue.
To date, 27 people have been confirmed dead, while 63 other victims require intensive care in the hospital, with 22 of them reportedly in critical condition. Initial investigations revealed that many victims were found near the restroom area, where they are believed to have sought an exit at the rear of the building as the situation spiraled out of control.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt stated that the entertainment venue actually held a valid operating license and was equipped with emergency exits. However, relevant authorities are still investigating whether these safety facilities functioned effectively and remained accessible to patrons under dark and smoke-filled conditions.
Initial testimony from a musician performing at the time of the incident indicated smoke emanating from an electrical panel shortly before the outage. Although this statement has not yet reached an official conclusion, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul emphasized that patron panic while moving toward the rear area posed the main evacuation challenge.
This tragedy at Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao reopens old wounds regarding nightlife safety standards in Thailand. The event bears striking similarities to the Santika Club fire in 2009 and the Mountain B Pub fire in 2022. These three deadly incidents, which together have claimed at least 120 lives, highlight recurring vulnerabilities such as the use of flammable interior materials, poor electrical systems, and difficult access to evacuation routes during emergency conditions.
