The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has officially cancelled plans to sell shares in the commercial business of the World Cup. This strategic decision was made after the ambitious project, known as "FIFA Forward Enterprise", faced a wave of opposition from various member associations worldwide.
According to the organization's official statement, FIFA chose not to proceed with the project to maintain internal solidarity. The business plan, initially designed to boost commercial revenues, was deemed to carry the risk of triggering polarization and division that could disrupt the harmony of relations between federation members.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino personally led a series of intensive discussions regarding the feasibility of this commercial project before the official cancellation decision was finalized. After evaluating various inputs, objections, and criticisms from its members, FIFA ultimately decided to completely terminate the program.
Initially, FIFA Forward Enterprise was conceived as a strategic instrument to strengthen financial and technical support for member associations, particularly developing nations requiring support to advance local football infrastructure. Despite carrying a vision to expand the positive impact of sports development, the project had to be shelved as it failed to secure the approval and support of the majority of its members.
