The Tangerang Regency Government is committed to shifting the pattern of waste handling from conventional methods to a more valuable modern system. This step is marked by strong encouragement from the Vice Regent of Tangerang, Intan Nurul Hikmah, who called on all elements of society, private developers, and government agencies to synergize in implementing the latest waste management technologies.
The invitation was delivered directly by Intan while leading a discussion forum with the Tangerang Regency Government, Sindang Jaya District Government, representatives of the developer Lavon Swan City, and other stakeholders in Wanakerta Village on Thursday (30/7). During the meeting, she emphasized the importance of changing the paradigm that waste is no longer just a pile of useless refuse, but a commodity that can be recycled and has high economic value if managed properly.
Furthermore, Intan explained that the Tangerang Regency area must start transitioning to advanced processing technologies such as pyrolysis, Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), and Waste to Energy (WTE). She also asked residential area developers to build independent waste management facilities in their respective areas so as not to continuously burden the capacity of the local Final Disposal Site (TPA/landfill).
In addition to offering technology-based solutions, the Tangerang Regency Government is also taking a firm stance against illegal waste burning practices that have a negative impact on air quality and public health. As preventive and repressive measures, the local government will tighten supervision in the field, intensify environmental education, and implement a reward and punishment system to create sustainable waste management.
