The Cilegon City Government is currently accelerating the construction project of a piping network as a long-term measure to address the clean water crisis in the mountainous area of Mount Batur. This vital infrastructure project is targeted to be fully completed by December 2026.
While the construction process is underway, the local government ensures that the supply of clean water continues to be distributed to affected residents. The distribution of clean water aid is focused on several crucial points that are geographically difficult to reach by water sources, including Mount Batur I, Mount Batur II, Tembulum, and the Suralaya area.
The Mayor of Cilegon, Robinsar, reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the clean water supply so that the basic needs of the people in the hilly areas remain fulfilled. He explained that the piping method from the lowlands to the upper areas was chosen due to the high geographical conditions of the region and the dominance of rocky terrain, making the drilling of boreholes a high-risk failure.
The main pipeline extending from the Grogol area has reportedly reached Cipala. Entering 2026, the construction work will continue to be extended to reach the Suralaya area to permanently end the drought issue.
Adding to this, the Acting Regional Secretary of Cilegon City, Ahmad Aziz Setia Ade Putra, stated that intensive coordination with the Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR) is ongoing to ensure the project is completed on time. So far, the city government has distributed approximately 1,200 to 1,250 cubic meters of clean water, and this amount is projected to continue to increase during the dry season.
This emergency response effort has received appreciation from local residents. One of the residents of Mount Batur, Ijah, expressed that clean water aid has been arriving more regularly over the past two weeks, which has greatly helped ease the burden on residents during the dry season.
