The Jember Regency Government has taken a decisive step by halting budget allocations for purely ceremonial activities. The Regent of Jember, Muhammad Fawait, emphasized that amid the region's limited fiscal space, the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) must be focused on agendas that deliver a real impact on citizens' economy, health, and regional achievements.
This directive was delivered by the Regent while attending the inauguration of the 25 board members of the Indonesian Community Sports Committee (KORMI) for Jember Regency for the 2025–2030 term at Pendopo Wahyawibawagraha. Fawait stressed the importance of data-driven assessments for every region-funded activity to ensure they do not merely become annual routines without a significant economic multiplier effect.
He cited the Jember Fashion Carnaval (JFC) as a successful model of regional investment. Supported by an APBD allocation of Rp2 billion, the international-scale event was able to generate an economic turnover of over Rp100 billion in 2025. This pattern of success is what regional government-sponsored sports organizations are expected to replicate.
KORMI Jember is therefore encouraged to design activities that combine physical movement with tourist appeal. The potential of community-based sports, such as marching bands and music carnival festivals, is considered immense for attracting tourists while simultaneously revitalizing the local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector.
Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of KORMI East Java, Debi Sisilia Samoa, hopes that the new management will actively campaign for the Active Indonesia Movement to improve public health quality down to the village level. Responding to the challenge, the elected Chairman of KORMI Jember, Tri Basuki, has prepared a main vision titled "Jember Moves, Jember Healthy, Jember Happy."
To realize this vision, KORMI Jember is committed to pioneering the Sports Village program, holding at least one monthly sports event in each sub-district, and digitalizing the organizational system. This collaborative step is expected to establish Jember as a barometer for recreational sports development, directly contributing to the health and creative economy sectors in East Java.
