A traffic accident involving an intercity bus has occurred once again on a East Java toll road. The PO Gunung Harta double-decker bus, traveling the Jakarta-Jember route, was reportedly completely destroyed by fire on the Nganjuk Toll Road at KM 631 on Saturday early morning (1/8) around 00:15 WIB.
The Volvo bus with license plate B 7572 KGA was traveling from Pondok Cabe towards Jember Regency. At the time of the fire, the vehicle driven by Purwanto (61) was carrying a total of 33 people, consisting of 30 passengers, two drivers, and one conductor.
Firefighting efforts involved six fire engines deployed to the scene. Joint officers from the Fire and Rescue Service of Nganjuk Regency and Madiun Regency were deployed to control the flames that consumed the entire bus body.
After battling the flames for approximately two hours, officers finally managed to extinguish the raging fire. Officers then immediately conducted a thorough cooling process to prevent the potential emergence of new hot spots. Although all passengers survived, the physical condition of the double-decker bus was reported to be severely damaged, leaving only the charred frame.
