The Ternate City contingent has once again proven its supremacy in the regional sports arena by clinching the overall champion title at the 12th Regional Student Sports Week (POPDA) of North Maluku Province. The event, held in Morotai Island Regency, witnessed the resilience of student athletes from the "Spice City".

As of Saturday (11/7/2026), Ternate's position at the top of the medal standings was out of reach for contingents from other regencies and cities. Ternate athletes recorded a total of 52 medals, consisting of 30 gold, 9 silver, and 13 bronze. This dominance has been consistently visible since the first day of the official competition.

This success also solidifies Ternate City's position as the main benchmark for student-athlete development in North Maluku. This impressive achievement is the result of the athletes' consistent training, the dedication of the coaching staff, and strong synergistic support from the local government and the local National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI).

This achievement in Morotai also completes Ternate's golden record in the provincial sports arena. Previously, the Ternate City contingent had just achieved a similar milestone by becoming the overall champion at the V North Maluku Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) held in Tobelo, North Halmahera, last month.

By pairing the two overall championship titles from Porprov and POPDA, Ternate City now further reinforces its status as the hub for developing high-achieving sports talent in the North Maluku region. This winning tradition is expected to continue motivating the development of young talents in the future.
