The Palembang City Government has officially reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the local chapter of the Indonesian Community Sports Commission (KORMI). This step was taken as a strategic effort to foster a healthy lifestyle culture while highlighting local wisdom values through various recreational sports branches.
The Mayor of Palembang, Ratu Dewa, while attending the inauguration ceremony of KORMI officials for the 2026-2030 period on Wednesday (7/8), emphasized that KORMI plays a vital role in reaching the broader public. According to him, recreational sports are not merely physical activities to maintain fitness, but an important instrument in strengthening social solidarity and preserving regional culture.
Furthermore, Ratu Dewa instructed the newly inaugurated board to immediately carry out internal consolidation. He expressed hope that the compiled work program will be tactical and directly address the needs of the community, rather than being merely a ceremonial agenda. Innovation involving the younger generation and communities is considered crucial so that a sports culture can grow organically within society.
Echoing this sentiment, the General Chairperson of South Sumatra KORMI, Samantha Tivani, emphasized the importance of adaptive programs. She highlighted the potential of community sports as a catalyst for the creative economy and tourism sectors in Palembang. By packaging sports based on local wisdom into attractions, she is optimistic that public participation in sports will increase significantly.
The collaboration between the government and KORMI is expected to create more productive and competitive human resources. The main focus moving forward is to present sports events that are not only health-promoting, but also deliver tangible impacts on character building and the welfare of Palembang residents.
