A lecturer in the Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, Dr. Mira, S.E., M.Ak., Ak., served as a speaker at the International Guest Lecturer forum at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Batu Pahat, Malaysia, on Saturday (12/7/2026). On this occasion, she emphasized the importance of integrating local wisdom into the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to create a sustainable business ecosystem in the ASEAN region.
Carrying the theme “Building Sustainable Business in ASEAN: When Local Wisdom Meets Artificial Intelligence”, Dr. Mira highlighted that digital transformation cannot rely solely on technical sophistication. According to her, trust is the primary social capital that determines business success in the digital era. Without a strong foundation of trust, no matter how advanced the technology is, it will not be able to guarantee the sustainability of relationships between companies and their stakeholders.
As a solution, Dr. Mira introduced the philosophy of the Bugis-Makassar people, namely Siri’ na Pacce, to strengthen ethics in AI utilization. She explained that values such as integrity, empathy, responsibility, and solidarity contained in the philosophy can be adapted to ensure AI development that is more transparent, accountable, and equitable. This approach is expected to serve as a guideline so that technological innovation does not merely pursue efficiency, but continues to uphold ethical principles.
In her presentation, Dr. Mira also shared concrete examples of technology implementation in the MSME sector in Makassar City, proving that digital innovation can run in harmony with the preservation of cultural values. This integration is believed to provide a competitive advantage for business actors in Southeast Asia, creating a more inclusive and responsible business model in the future.
This event was not only an occasion to share ideas, but also strengthened the strategic partnership between Unismuh Makassar and UTHM. Through future research collaboration and academic development, both universities hope to promote Indonesian local values onto the global stage while making a tangible contribution to a sustainable ASEAN business ecosystem.
