Member of Commission XIII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), M. Shadiq Pasadigoe, emphasized that national economic growth must not ignore human rights aspects. During a Hearing with the Indonesia Business and Human Rights Lawyers Working Group (IBHR-LWG), Shadiq highlighted the importance of making Human Rights principles the core foundation of every business activity in Indonesia.
The discussion held at the Parliament Building touched on various crucial issues, ranging from labor rights and land disputes to environmental protection and indigenous rights. Shadiq stressed that a company's success is no longer measured solely by its profit margin, but also by its contribution to respecting the rights of those directly affected by its operations.
Findings from the IBHR-LWG revealed that many companies still treat Human Rights principles merely as administrative paperwork compliance. In response, Shadiq urged the strengthening of regulations backed by strict oversight so that corporate governance genuinely integrates Human Rights values as tangible operational standards, rather than mere formalities.
As a concrete step, Shadiq supports the initiative to establish a Parliamentary Caucus for Business and Human Rights. This cross-faction platform is expected to strengthen legislative and oversight functions, fostering a healthy business ecosystem. According to him, legal certainty and respect for human rights will serve as key attractions for investors prioritizing long-term business sustainability.
Commission XIII is committed to continuously safeguarding this policy through oversight, legislative, and budgeting functions. Synergy among the government, private sector, and civil society is seen as key to ensuring that national development remains inclusive and upholds justice for all levels of society.
