The Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) of Gunung Mas Regency has highlighted the heavy traffic of transport vehicles owned by major private companies (PBS) traveling along the Kurun–Palangka Raya road segment. Heavy-tonnage trucks are considered the primary driver of accelerated road infrastructure damage in the region, particularly in Sepang and Mihing Raya districts.
Vice Speaker of the Gunung Mas DPRD, Nomi Aprilia, urged companies to take greater responsibility in managing vehicle cargo weight. According to her, the practice of hauling loads exceeding the designated road class capacity has severely deteriorated road conditions at several critical points stretching from Kuala Kurun to Karitak.
In addition to overloading, Nomi pointed out the habit of truck drivers traveling in continuous convoys. This activity is deemed to significantly disrupt traffic flow and endanger the safety of other road users. Consequently, she requested that private companies immediately evaluate their operational schedules and logistics distribution patterns to avoid congestion on public roads.
Furthermore, the DPRD is encouraging local authorities and the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government to tighten oversight regarding compliance with heavy vehicle tonnage limits. Consistent enforcement is viewed as crucial to slowing the rate of infrastructure degradation amid rising logistics mobility.
On the other hand, Nomi urged the provincial government to promptly upgrade the road classification. Given that the Kurun–Palangka Raya route is a vital corridor for public mobility, adjusting the road class is considered a long-term solution to ensure the infrastructure can accommodate daily heavy transport loads.
