Lampung Province is preparing to make history in the utilization of aerospace technology. The Lampung-1 satellite is scheduled to launch from the coast of Shandong, China, on August 5, 2026. This spacecraft is part of the OSE Hyperspectral Twin Satellites mission developed by aerospace company STAR.VISION Aerospace.

The launch is the result of a cooperation agreement signed by the Governor of Lampung, Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, and STAR.VISION in Shandong in May 2025, in coordination with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Interestingly, this project does not place any burden on Lampung's Regional Budget (APBD). The satellite is entirely owned and operated by STAR.VISION, while the Lampung Provincial Government acts as the data user to formulate regional development policies.

Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal explained that this tactical step was taken to promote modern and data-driven governance. According to him, accurate decision-making requires fast and precise data, replacing conventional field survey methods that are often time-consuming and costly.

The primary advantage of Lampung-1 lies in its use of hyperspectral sensors combined with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This system is capable of scanning the Earth's surface with much higher detail compared to conventional imaging satellites. The information obtained can be used to detect potential natural disasters such as floods and landslides, monitor the health of agricultural crops, and oversee regional infrastructure conditions.

The presence of this satellite is expected to have a multisectoral impact. For farmers, this periodic space data can help detect crop growth anomalies early to prevent harvest failure. On the other hand, business operators and academics can also utilize this database for investment analysis and cutting-edge scientific research.

Beyond technology transfer, this strategic partnership also includes improving the quality of local human resources. The Lampung Provincial Government plans to send a number of experts to China to study satellite technology operations, remote sensing data processing, and AI applications. This effort is aimed at ensuring that the utilization of space data can be managed independently and sustainably for the prosperity of the people of Lampung.
