Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is reportedly taking strategic steps to enter the cloud computing industry. This move is seen as a serious effort by the company to become a key player in providing global artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, while diversifying into new revenue streams beyond the digital advertising business.
As part of this ambition, the company led by Mark Zuckerberg has begun developing internal AI chip designs through a project dubbed "Iris". This initiative aims to strengthen the company's AI ecosystem while minimizing dependence on third-party graphics processing units (GPUs), such as Nvidia, amid global component shortages.
In its execution, Meta is reportedly collaborating with Broadcom for technical design and partnering with TSMC for chip manufacturing. This step is predicted not only to boost operational efficiency and profit margins for the company, but also to strengthen AI-driven advertising capabilities, which form the backbone of Meta's revenue.
Market analysts assess that Meta's current stock valuation shows potential that has not yet been fully realized by market participants. With the global digital advertising market projected to reach $2.06 trillion by 2033, these strategic partnerships and self-reliant infrastructure innovations place Meta in a strong competitive position to face future computing challenges.
