Maranatha Christian University (UK Maranatha) officially inaugurated the new Faculty of Technology and Smart Engineering (FTRC) building at its main campus in Bandung on Monday (29/6/2026). This inauguration marks an important milestone in the institution's transformation to present an educational ecosystem that is more adaptive to industrial dynamics and the latest scientific advancements.
This four-story building does not merely function as classrooms, but is designed as a center for solution-oriented research collaboration. Various modern supporting facilities have been prepared, including specialized laboratories for hydraulics, soil mechanics, robotics, and the Computer Vision Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CVAIL). Dean of FTRC, Radiant Victor Imbar, emphasized that this facility upgrade is a testament to the university's commitment to providing an academic environment conducive to the development of innovation.
The main focus of FTRC at present is to produce a tangible impact on society through various strategic collaborations. One significant ongoing contribution is the involvement of lecturers and students in the SATREPS international project. In this program, the FTRC team is developing *virtual reality* (VR) based earthquake simulation technology, collaborating with various agencies such as BRIN, BMKG, and global institutions from Japan to strengthen disaster mitigation systems in Indonesia.
In addition to digital-based innovation, FTRC is also expanding its research scope into environmental management through HydroLink. This center of excellence focuses on sustainable water resource management and recently received international grant support from the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia. The presence of this new infrastructure is expected to boost the research productivity of experts, including artificial intelligence specialist Oscar Karnalim, to reinforce UK Maranatha's position as a socially oriented educational institution.
