The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) of the Republic of Indonesia, Erick Thohir, officially inaugurated two new high-ranking officials within the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) on Friday (10/7). Suyadi Pawiro now serves as the Secretary of Kemenpora (Sesmenpora), while Teuku Arlan Perkasa Lukman has been appointed to the position of Deputy for Sports Industry Development.
Erick emphasized that this regeneration and leadership transition is a crucial part of the efforts to transform the ministry's governance. The main focus of this policy is to enhance bureaucratic reform, optimize public services, and build a sports industry ecosystem that is more modern and globally competitive.
In his directives, Erick stressed the importance of changing the paradigm that Kemenpora is merely a 'cost center' or a budget burden. He asserted that the ministry is actually an investment instrument for the nation's future, both through youth empowerment and the optimization of the sports sector, which holds high economic value.
Erick added that the sports industry and sport tourism sectors have now become economic drivers in many countries. The presence of the Deputy for Sports Industry Development is expected to manage this potential to make a tangible contribution to national income, while maintaining the nation's image through athletic achievements on the international stage.
Responding to this mandate, Suyadi Pawiro committed to strengthening internal governance and ensuring that bureaucratic effectiveness is transparent and accountable. Echoing this sentiment, Teuku Arlan expressed his readiness to adapt quickly and formulate strategic steps to boost the development of Indonesia's sports industry ecosystem in line with the Minister's directives.
