A touching and proud event took place in Merauke Regency, South Papua. A young mother named Damiana Konko Katmo (23), a resident of Jalan Johar, Kelapa Lima, successfully gave birth to her baby inside a patrol vehicle belonging to the Merauke Kota Police Sector on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
The incident began when police officers on duty received a report from residents about a mother experiencing severe contractions and needing urgent medical evacuation. Without wasting time, police personnel immediately responded to the call by providing transport assistance to take the mother to the nearest healthcare facility.
However, en route to the hospital, labor progressed faster than expected. Thanks to the alertness of the personnel on the ground and quick coordination, the delivery was successfully completed safely inside the patrol car cabin. The mother and newborn baby were reported to be in stable condition after receiving further medical care upon arrival at the hospital.
This action garnered appreciation from local residents as a tangible form of the National Police's presence amid public difficulties. The incident also serves as a reminder of the important role of police patrol units, which focus not only on law enforcement but are also ready to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to citizens in need.
