Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, still maintains Level III or Alert status. Based on monitoring by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) on Monday (6/7/2026), the volcano's activity showed emissions of crater smoke.
Reports from the Volcano Observation Post indicate that white crater smoke of thin to thick intensity was observed rising 10 to 100 meters above the peak. Visual observation of the volcano was fairly clear, although occasionally covered by thin fog, with weather conditions around the location ranging from clear to cloudy.
Seismically, PVMBG recorded low-frequency earthquake activity with a duration of 19 seconds, as well as continuous tremor recordings with amplitudes ranging from 1 to 2 millimeters. Although volcanic activity is still ongoing, water conditions around the volcano are reported to be calm and stable.
Regarding potential hazards, PVMBG reiterates the ban on the public, fishermen, and tourists from approaching the crater area within a 3-kilometer radius. This warning is a mandatory mitigation step to anticipate potential fluctuations in volcanic activity and to ensure public safety from unexpected risks.
