Mount Karangetang, located in the Siau Tagulandang Biaro (Sitaro) Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, has once again shown an increase in volcanic activity. Based on visual reports from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), eruptive activity was clearly recorded on Monday (13/7) early morning at 00:35 WITA.
Related authorities are currently continuing to monitor the development of magma fluctuations and lava avalanches from the active volcano. PVMBG urges residents living around the slopes of the mountain as well as tourists to remain alert and comply with the recommended safe distance limits.
As one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, Karangetang is characterized by effusive eruptions that frequently launch incandescent lava avalanches. The local government along with related agencies also continue to coordinate to prepare emergency mitigation steps to anticipate potential hazards that could threaten the safety of local residents.
