Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, Lampung, showed volcanic activity once again on Friday, July 10, 2026. Based on monitoring by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the eruption occurred at 21:40 WIB, spewing an ash column 150 meters high above the peak.
Overall, the height of the ash column reached 307 meters above sea level. The erupted volcanic material was observed to be gray to dark black in color with moderate to thick intensity, and was seen moving towards the north and northwest.
Seismograph data recordings showed that the eruption lasted for 27 seconds with a maximum amplitude of 49 millimeters. Currently, authorities continue to conduct strict surveillance from the Anak Krakatau Volcano Observation Post to monitor the latest developments in the situation.
The activity status of the volcano is currently still set at Level III (Alert). As a mitigation measure, PVMBG strongly advises the public, tourists, fishermen, and climbers not to approach or carry out any activities within a three-kilometer radius of the active crater center.
The government also asked the public to remain calm and only refer to official information published by the Geological Agency through PVMBG. This is crucial to prevent the spread of unverified information or hoaxes that could potentially cause panic in the area around the Sunda Strait.
