The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pandeglang Regency has officially raised the status of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) to Level III or Standby. This decision was made following a surge in volcanic activity considered quite intensive in recent times.
As a mitigation measure, local authorities issued a strict prohibition for the public, fishermen, and tourists against approaching the mountain area within a five-kilometer radius. This step was taken to anticipate potential hazards from ejected volcanic material and incandescent rocks that could occur at any time.
Acep Firmansyah, Head of the Prevention and Preparedness Strategy Division at BPBD Pandeglang, stated that vigilance instructions have been disseminated down to the sub-district and village levels. This outreach is crucial so that all levels of society understand the risks and evacuation procedures if the situation worsens.
Although the volcano's status has been raised, conditions in the coastal area of Pandeglang are currently reported to remain conducive, and daily activities continue as normal. The BPBD urges the public to stay calm, not fall for fake news easily, and always monitor the latest developments through official government information channels.
