The Joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team successfully rescued six Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) students who were trapped while carrying out their Community Service Program (KKN) in the Mount Goa Kalibbong Alloa area, Belae Village, Minasatene District, Pangkajene and Islands (Pangkep) Regency, South Sulawesi. All students were reported safely evacuated after a dramatic rescue process.
The incident began on Sunday night (26/7/2026) around 21:00 WITA. At that time, the students were implementing a village innovation program focusing on the development of special interest tourism potential in Belae Village. However, one student named Ine Agustina (21) suffered severe leg cramps, while five of her colleagues experienced extreme exhaustion after climbing the cliff, making them unable to make the descent on their own.
The emergency report was received by the Makassar Class A Search and Rescue Office on early Monday morning (27/7/2026) around 02:30 WITA from a local resident. Responding to the report, the rescue team was immediately deployed to the scene with specialized evacuation equipment, coordinating closely with the Pangkep Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
The evacuation process was highly challenging due to the extreme terrain. The Head of the Operations and Alert Section of the Makassar Class A Search and Rescue Office, Andi Sultan, explained that the team had to face a steep cliff about 25 meters high. This condition forced the SAR team to use vertical rescue techniques with a safety rope system to ensure the safety of the victims.
After several hours of rescue efforts, all victims were finally brought down safely at 09:47 WITA. The six students were immediately rushed to the Minasatene Health Center for further medical examination. After all victims were handed over to medical personnel, the SAR operation was officially closed at 10:00 WITA.
