The East Java Provincial Forestry Office has taken decisive action by completely closing all hiking access to Mount Cendoro. This policy was implemented following wildfires that have swept through the mountain's slopes over the past few days.
This temporary closure applies to all hiking entrances, both in Mojokerto Regency and Malang Regency. Authorities have not yet been able to confirm when the hiking trails will reopen, as firefighting efforts are still ongoing.
Head of the East Java Provincial Forestry Office, Jumadi, emphasized that the safety of hikers is the top priority amidst this emergency situation. Steep and difficult terrain remains the main obstacle for joint teams trying to extinguish the flames in the field.
To anticipate any hikers attempting to trespass, joint officers are stationed at various security posts and routinely patrol unofficial trails. If violators are found, officers will immediately conduct forced evacuations for their own safety.
On the other hand, the Cangar Hot Springs tourist destination located in the same area is reported to be operating normally. Management has ensured that the hot springs location is at a very safe distance from the main hotspots.
