The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has officially clarified the circulation of a video recording on social media depicting the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. In the video, which is less than a minute long, two people are seen recording volcanic activity accompanied by flashes of light from a ship in the middle of the sea.
Authorities emphasized that the narrative accompanying the visuals is false, or a hoax. The public is asked to be wiser and not participate in spreading unverified content to prevent panic among the community.
Based on monitoring data from the field team, Mount Anak Krakatau's activity was recorded to have experienced only two minor eruptions recently. The eruptions occurred on Thursday (2/7) at 14:05 WIB and Friday (3/7) at 11:50 WIB, with the observed ash column height reaching 200 meters above the mountain's peak.
The Geological Agency reiterated the ban on activities for fishermen, climbers, and tourists within a 3-kilometer radius of the crater to avoid dangers from ejected volcanic material, pyroclastic flows, and ashfall. Residents in the coastal areas of Banten and Lampung are also urged to remain calm and not be swayed by misleading rumors regarding tsunami potential.
All current and accurate information regarding the volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau is only released through official channels of the Geological Agency, PVMBG, and the MAGMA Indonesia application. Local governments also encourage residents to continue monitoring developments through directives from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in their respective areas.
