The Women's Organization Cooperation Board (BKOW) of South Kalimantan Province initiated a social action in the form of a mass circumcision for dozens of elementary and kindergarten-aged children. The event, which took place in the lobby of the South Kalimantan Governor's Office, Banjarmasin, on Saturday (04/07/2026), was the result of a strategic collaboration with the local Health Office and the Office of Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning (DP3AKB).
Chairperson of BKOW South Kalimantan, drg. Hj. Ellyana Trisya Hasnuryadi, emphasized that this program aims to ease the economic burden on underprivileged families in fulfilling children's health rights. According to her, circumcision is not merely a religious and cultural obligation, but a crucial step in maintaining long-term hygiene and health for boys.
In its implementation, the medical team used the electrocautery method, also known as laser circumcision, which is known for minimal bleeding and a shorter recovery time. A total of 30 children received this professional medical service free of charge. Participants also received additional assistance such as school bags, sarongs, and cash as moral support for their parents.
Head of DP3AKB South Kalimantan, Husnul Hatimah, added that access to safe circumcision services remains a challenge for lower-income communities due to high costs at private health facilities. Therefore, it is hoped that this cross-sector synergy can continue to reach more children in the future.
One of the parents of a participant, Herlina, admitted that she felt greatly helped by this event. She explained that circumcision costs, which currently reach millions of rupiahs, are very burdensome for low-income families. The presence of this program provides a real solution for meeting her child's medical needs and school supplies ahead of the new academic year.
