The prestigious 2026 President's Cup football tournament has officially kicked off with an opening ceremony at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung Regency, West Java, on Saturday (25/7/2026). Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian, who attended the event, hopes that this event will have a double impact, serving as public entertainment as well as a driving force for the local economy.
According to Tito, the high public enthusiasm for football presents a huge opportunity for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) around the match venue. This economic activity is expected to mimic the positive effects of large-scale tournaments like the World Cup, which successfully boost the real sector's income significantly.
"We hope the effect will be like the World Cup recently, providing entertainment for people across Indonesia. I am also confident that the public's economic growth will be driven by this momentum," Tito said in his official statement.
In addition to the economic aspect, the Minister of Home Affairs emphasized the importance of the President's Cup as a platform for nurturing young athletes and scouting potential young talents. Through a competitive and high-quality tournament, it is hoped that a new generation will emerge, ready to strengthen the Indonesian National Team (Timnas) and lead the Garuda squad to the World Cup stage in the future.
Echoing the Minister of Home Affairs, the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) and Chairman of the 2026 President's Cup Steering Committee, Maruarar Sirait, assessed that this year's implementation is much more vibrant. This is reflected in the increase of the main prize for the champion team, which rose to IDR 6 billion from the previous edition's IDR 5.5 billion.
Maruarar also appreciated the arrangement of the MSME areas, which are now much neater and more representative to welcome spectators. Before carrying out the symbolic kick-off with other officials, the Minister of Home Affairs and the Minister of PKP took the time to review and taste various culinary delights offered by local business owners around the stadium.
