China has officially marked a new milestone in the global aerospace technology race. Through the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), Beijing successfully tested a rocket technology capable of launching and landing back on Earth, an achievement previously dominated by Elon Musk's SpaceX.
The test, which took place in Hainan Province, involved the Long March 10B rocket. In footage broadcast by national television station CCTV, the rocket was seen successfully performing a precise vertical landing on an offshore recovery platform. This success positions China as the second country in the world, after the United States, to possess such technical capabilities.
This progressive step is seen as a strategic effort by China to significantly reduce spacecraft launch operational costs. With the ability to reuse the same booster for multiple missions, efficiency in the space industry can be drastically increased.
This development also serves as a strong signal that the technological gap in the space sector between China and the United States is narrowing. CASC is committed to further maturing this technology to support the country's long-term ambitions for more sustainable and cost-effective space exploration.
