As FIFA's official robot partner, Hyundai Motor took advantage of this moment to demonstrate the advanced robotics technology developed by its subsidiary, Boston Dynamics.

Emerging from the players' tunnel during halftime, Atlas demonstrated a series of iconic celebration moves before handing the ball to the referee to start the second half. This demonstration was not just an entertainment show, but a strategic step by Hyundai to test the robot's stability in a signal-dense stadium environment. The engineering team even used dedicated radio communication to overcome connectivity challenges due to high cellular device interference in the stadium area.

Alberto Rodriguez, Director of Robotics Behavior at Boston Dynamics, explained that training Atlas to perform soccer moves is similar to preparing robots for industrial tasks. This step is seen as an effort to bring the public closer to the real potential of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered robots in the future. Hyundai itself has scheduled mass production of Atlas at its factory in Georgia, United States, in 2028 to handle repetitive and high-risk jobs.

Labor unions in South Korea have expressed concerns regarding the impact of robotization on job stability. They demand a constructive dialogue on automation policies before this technology is fully implemented in factory environments.
