The Indonesian government is taking progressive steps to improve governance in the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) sector. Deputy Head of the SOE Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN), Tedi Bharata, officially announced a strategic partnership with the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) on July 13, 2026. This initiative aims to create an integrated, transparent data ecosystem that is accountably accessible to both the public and key stakeholders.

This collaboration comes in response to public pressure demanding greater transparency regarding asset management, dividend distribution, and operational efficiency of state-owned enterprises. By integrating the reporting systems between BP BUMN and DGT, the government seeks to close data uncertainty gaps that have long existed in gray areas. This step is expected to send a positive signal to global capital markets regarding Indonesia's serious commitment to maintaining good corporate governance.

To optimize the effectiveness of this policy, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology serves as a main pillar. The implementation of artificial intelligence, particularly machine learning and natural language processing, is projected to detect financial anomalies automatically and in real time. The use of AI is expected to curb inefficiencies and map the financial health of SOEs with greater precision, ultimately boosting the companies' return on assets (ROA).

Despite the high potential benefits, technical challenges must be promptly addressed, namely cross-sector accounting standardization and strengthening national cybersecurity. BP BUMN and DGT are currently designing a dedicated task force structure involving internal auditors and tech experts to formulate unified data protocols. The primary focus is to build a transparent SOE performance dashboard while safeguarding the state's strategic data security.

As this initiative gets underway, investor confidence in the SOE sector is expected to rise, while simultaneously strengthening economic democracy in Indonesia. This information transparency will allow the public to directly monitor SOEs' contributions to economic equality, ensuring that every rupiah managed by state enterprises is accountable for the broad welfare of the people.
