The Tanimbar Islands Regency Government (KKT), alongside members of the local legislature, held a strategic audience with the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) in Jakarta on Thursday (9/7/2026). The meeting aimed to propose the strengthening of primary and referral healthcare facilities to ensure equitable access to medical services for the population of the archipelagic region.
Head of the Tanimbar Islands Health and Population Control Office, Brendina Clara Sumanik, emphasized that this step was taken to address urgent needs on the ground. Her office submitted seven priority points, including the provision of integrated clean water facilities, the construction of medical-grade wastewater treatment plants (WWTP/IPAL), and the procurement of various health transportation means such as ambulances and mobile health center vehicles.
In addition to physical infrastructure development, the proposal also covers operational aspects, including support for specialist medical staff at RSUD PP Magretty Saumlaki and RS Anaktototy Larat. According to Brendina, the geographical characteristics of Tanimbar, which consists of islands, demand adequate transportation and facilities so that health services are not hindered by technical obstacles.
Echoing the executive branch, Deputy Speaker of the Tanimbar Islands DPRD, Pola Laratmase, stated that the synergy between the regional government and the DPRD represents a commitment to championing public aspirations. He expressed hope that the Ministry of Health would respond positively so that these crucial needs could be met gradually to improve the health standards of the people in Bumi Duan Lolat.
