The Budget Committee of the Gunung Mas Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Central Kalimantan, has urged the local Education, Youth and Sports Agency (Disdikpora) to tighten supervision over the School Environment Orientation Period (MPLS). This measure was taken to ensure a safe and supportive educational environment for new students.
Spokesperson for the Gunung Mas DPRD Budget Committee, Yulius Agau, emphasized that the implementation of MPLS in every educational unit must refrain from hazing practices irrelevant to academic needs. The council strictly prohibits requiring additional attributes or bringing odd items, which often burden students during orientation.
"We emphasize that MPLS must prioritize educational, creative, and humane values. This activity must not become a mere annual formality that has the potential to traumatize students," Yulius stated during a plenary meeting in Kuala Kurun.
In addition to highlighting technical aspects, the DPRD also called on parents and the community to play an active role in field supervision. The public is urged not to hesitate to report to schools or Disdikpora if they find any indications of actions deviating from educational guidelines.
Gunung Mas Regent, Jaya S. Monong, responded positively to the recommendations. He reaffirmed the local government's commitment to following up on the directions so that the transition period for new students can proceed comfortably and build positive character without fear.
