The two-week search effort for Arifin Nurohmat (18) and Yufaidin (15), two teenagers from Krinjing Hamlet, Wonosobo, ended in deep grief. Both were found lifeless at the bottom of a ravine with a depth of 284 meters in the Curug Tiga area on the slopes of Mount Bismo on Sunday (12/7/2026).
The discovery was made unexpectedly by a team from Wanadri conducting an independent search in the Sidongkal Block, one day after the official joint SAR operation was called off. The Head of Watumalang Subdistrict (Camat), Arief Hardiyanto, confirmed that the extremely steep and rugged terrain was the main obstacle in the evacuation process, which took several hours.
The joint SAR team was forced to use vertical rescue techniques with specialized equipment to lift the bodies from the bottom of the ravine to the Sembrani Post. Extreme geographical conditions coupled with minimal lighting as night approached made the rescue operation highly challenging for the volunteers on the ground.
Following the evacuation, both bodies were immediately rushed to Setjonegoro Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for identification by the Wonosobo Police Inafis Team and a thorough medical examination. The examination results confirmed the absence of signs of violence, with physical injuries such as fractures and blunt force trauma consistent with a fall from a height.
The local village government has provided assistance to the victims' families to convey the sad news. With the recovery of the two teenagers, who had been reported missing after leaving without notice since June 30, 2026, the entire search operation involving hundreds of personnel from various units was declared officially closed.
