A case of alleged diploma withholding has hit an alumnus of Trimurti Husada Health Vocational School, Ambon, with the initials MP. Six years after graduating in 2020, MP has still not received the diploma document, which is a fundamental right to pursue a career or higher education.
In fact, MP's family confirmed that all school administrative obligations had been completed since 2022. Although there were unpaid graduation fees at the time of graduation, settling the debt should have paved the way for the school to hand over the graduation document to the student.
The issue became even more complicated after the school claimed that MP's file, including the official passport photo, had been lost. The school asked MP to provide a new passport photo as a requirement to print the diploma. However, after the request was fulfilled, the school made excuses that the diploma could not be printed due to the absence of an authorized official.
Mediation efforts were conducted by MP's family by visiting the school, the treasurer, and the former principal involved. Unfortunately, these efforts resulted in mutual blame-shifting. The school even offered an unusual solution: issuing a handwritten diploma and requiring MP to sign a statement of consent, which was strongly rejected by the family due to concerns over the document's validity.
To date, the fate of MP's diploma remains in limbo. Confirmation efforts with the current principal of Trimurti Husada Health Vocational School, Maria Mosse, have yielded no results as she has been difficult to reach. This situation leaves the alumnus stranded without certainty regarding their educational rights.
