A massive protest was carried out by healthcare workers serving in the Ebola outbreak red zone of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The decision to halt medical services was made following the accumulated frustration of medical staff who have not received their salaries for more than 52 days.
This situation creates a new polemic amidst the increasingly critical outbreak management efforts. These medical workers are now in a dilemma, as they are demanded to continue risking their lives on the front lines against the deadly virus, while also facing security risks from local residents triggered by social panic.
Data from local health authorities shows a worrying condition, with the total number of infections continuing to climb, reaching 1,561 cases. Out of this number, 506 lives have been lost due to the Ebola virus, making the stoppage of medical services due to this strike a serious threat to the safety of the wider community in the region.
