The domestic gold pawn business sector faced significant challenges throughout the first semester of 2026. Fluctuations in precious metal prices, which tended to undergo corrections, triggered a decline in collateral appraisal values, thereby automatically limiting loan disbursement capacity to customers.

Director of Finance and Strategic Planning at PT Pegadaian, Ferdian Timur Satyagraha, revealed that this downward trend began to be felt entering April 2026. While at the beginning of the year gold pawn disbursements reached IDR 50 trillion monthly, this value has now drastically shrunk to around IDR 30 trillion per month.

Despite the contraction in disbursed loan values, public interest in gold-based financing products is reported to remain relatively stable. However, significant market price adjustments have forced pawn companies to be more cautious in setting credit ceilings to maintain the company's risk profile amid global commodity price uncertainty.
