The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Management Authority (BB TNBTS) has issued a complete closure policy for all hiking activities on Mount Semeru. This step was taken as a form of deep respect for the implementation of the 2026 Yadnya Karo Traditional Holiday celebrated by the Tengger indigenous community.
According to an official statement, the closure of the hiking trail to the highest mountain on Java Island will last for 12 days, starting from Friday, August 7, 2026, until Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The entire online ticket booking system will reopen normally on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, via the official portal bromotenggersemeru.id.
The Head of BB TNBTS, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, explained that this policy follows up on a request from the Ranupani Village Government. The management considers closing hiking access essential to maintaining solemnity and security during the series of traditional rituals held by local residents.
To ensure the hiking trails are completely cleared, the TNBTS management requires all hikers to immediately descend from the peak area and report to the Ranupani Post by Friday, August 7, 2026, at 16:00 WIB at the latest. After this deadline, the hiking area will be entirely cleared of tourist activities.
Although the hiking trail is closed, BB TNBTS continues to allow access for certain tourist activities. Daily recreation areas and the camping ground at Ranu Regulo are confirmed to operate normally, ensuring that the tourism sector in the national park's buffer area continues smoothly during the traditional celebration period.
