Hulu Sungai Utara Regency (HSU) has officially been named the host for the 13th South Kalimantan Provincial Sports Week (Porprov). This decision was made after the region was declared to have met all the verification criteria set by the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) of South Kalimantan.
Regent of HSU, H. Sahrujani, stated his region's full readiness to welcome the largest sporting event in Banua, scheduled to take place in 2029. According to him, this trust serves as both a challenge and momentum for HSU to finalize infrastructure preparations and sustainable athlete development.
Regarding competition targets, the local government chose to be realistic. Sahrujani emphasized that HSU's main focus is not chasing the overall championship title, but rather prioritizing the quality of local native athletes. He ensured that the HSU contingent would not recruit outside athletes as a commitment to fostering local talent potential.
As a concrete step, the HSU Regency Government is committed to repairing and upgrading sports facilities and infrastructure in accordance with the recommendations of the South Kalimantan KONI verification team. These improvements are targeted for completion within two fiscal years to ensure adequate facility standards for all participants.
Beyond organizational success, the 13th South Kalimantan Porprov event is expected to deliver a real economic impact for the local community. The massive sports infrastructure development is believed to leave a lasting legacy for public facility development and the advancement of the sports ecosystem in the Hulu Sungai Utara region.
