The Sumenep Regency Government has achieved an outstanding national milestone by winning four awards simultaneously from the Ministry of Population and Family Development/National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN). This appreciation was given for the region's high commitment to accelerating the reduction of stunting rates and the success of its population programs during the commemoration of the 33rd National Family Day.
The Head of the Sumenep Regency Health, Population Control, and Family Planning Office (DKP2KB), drg. Ellya Fardasah, M.Kes., revealed that this extraordinary achievement is the result of the consistent implementation of four innovative BKKBN programs in her region. These programs are comprehensively designed to target various age groups and community needs.
The four flagship programs include TAMASYA (Taman Asuh Sayang Anak - Loving Childcare Garden), which functions as an integrated daycare service with monitoring of nutritional growth and development, and GATI (Gerakan Ayah Teladan Indonesia - Indonesian Exemplary Father Movement) to encourage fathers to play an active role in parenting to prevent the phenomenon of fatherless children. In addition, there is the SIDAYA (Lansia Berdaya - Empowered Elderly) program through Elderly Schools to create a productive elderly group, and GENTING (Gerakan Orang Tua Asuh Cegah Stunting - Foster Parents Movement to Prevent Stunting), which focuses on distributing nutrition to vulnerable families.
According to Ellya, cross-sector synergy is the main key to this success. The GENTING program and strict supervision at TAMASYA posts have proven effective in significantly reducing the rate of stunting prevalence. This success is also reinforced by the achievement of Female Surgical Method family planning (KB MOW) acceptors exceeding the 100 percent target, a crucial step in minimizing maternal and infant mortality rates while maintaining women's reproductive health.
The local government is committed not to become complacent with this appreciation. DKP2KB of Sumenep Regency plans to integrate all program achievement data as the main database in drafting public health intervention policies that are more precise and have a direct impact on the community in the future.
