Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Wibowo, emphasized that traffic issues in Indonesia are a collective responsibility of all elements of the nation, not merely the burden of the police institution. He likened traffic to the lifeblood of society, serving as a tangible parameter for measuring the level of modernization and reflecting a country's culture.
During a gathering at the NTMC Korlantas Polri Building in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/7/2026), Inspector General Wibowo outlined two strategic challenges that will overshadow the traffic sector in the future: the demographic dividend phenomenon and rapid technological advances. According to him, these two factors demand the adaptation of service systems to be more effective, efficient, and easily accessible without neglecting safety aspects.
Wibowo also highlighted the urgent need to increase public discipline on the roads, particularly regarding the widespread violation of driving against traffic flow, which threatens traffic security, safety, order, and smooth flow (kamseltibcarlantas). He assessed that technology must be utilized to meet the growing mobility needs of modern society while remaining compliant with regulations.
Furthermore, the Traffic Corps Chief expressed appreciation for the program foundations laid by his predecessor, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho. The success in reducing accident rates and casualty fatality rates during the previous tenure serves as an important benchmark as well as an encouragement for the new leadership to continue innovating in the traffic operations sector.
Closing his statement, Inspector General Wibowo expressed Korlantas Polri's commitment to continuing to open up avenues of collaboration with various stakeholders. For him, achieving maximum success in creating safe traffic is the result of joint hard work among all elements of society and related parties in Indonesia.
