The Central Java Provincial Government has once again demonstrated its commitment to revitalizing the fisheries sector through a successful harvest of vaname shrimp at Loka PBI Tugu, Semarang. Utilizing closed system technology across a 1,561-square-meter pond, the government proved that engineering innovation can produce high-quality commodities even within an industrial area.
Head of the Central Java Marine Affairs and Fisheries Service, Endi Faiz Efendi, revealed that the harvest, conducted after an 82-day cultivation period, is projected to yield 1.3 tons of shrimp. The closed system was chosen as a water efficiency solution, where the water used undergoes strict treatment using dolomite, chlorine, and aeration to maintain the sterility of the cultivation environment.
Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi, during his visit, emphasized the crucial role of government fisheries centers as hubs for supplying superior seeds to the community. According to him, strengthening the breeding sector is key to reducing production costs and accelerating economic turnover for local farmers. He also instructed all department personnel to be more proactive in assisting the public, from upstream operations to the marketing of harvested yields.
Furthermore, Ahmad Luthfi outlined a strategic plan to revitalize ponds along the North Coast (Pantura) of Central Java, spanning 17 regencies and cities. With full support from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the revitalization project for 72,000 hectares of pond land—which has so far been managed traditionally—is targeted to be realized soon to support national food self-sufficiency.
