The Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) is devising strategic measures to overhaul the national sports ecosystem. This step comes after a delegation from NOC Indonesia completed the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in the United States in mid-2026.
President of NOC Indonesia, Raja Sapta Oktohari, explained that the visit provided a crucial perspective on the pattern of sports integration in the United States. Uncle Sam's nation is considered successful in placing athletes at the pinnacle of world achievement through solid synergies, ranging from early childhood development, organizational management, to robust industrial support.
One of the main points highlighted was the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) model. Okto assessed that the athlete development model through higher education institutions is highly relevant for adoption in Indonesia to ensure the sustainable development of young talent in a professional and measurable manner.
Beyond the technical aspects of training, the delegation also delved into the importance of an ecosystem involving funding sectors, sport science management, and anti-doping governance. According to Okto, sporting success cannot be achieved through fragmented sectoral efforts, but rather through integrated cross-party collaboration.
The insights gained from the United States will be presented to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, as policy recommendations. This initiative aligns with the directives of President Prabowo Subianto, who pays great attention to the long-term development of the country's sports sector to make it more competitive on the global stage.
