The Indonesian government is formulating a new scheme regarding fuel subsidy distribution specifically targeted at fishermen operating vessels with a capacity of 30 to 200 Gross Tonnage (GT). This step is taken to ensure that state budget efficiency is maintained.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, emphasized that the fuel subsidy scheme for fishermen in this category will not utilize funds from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). This policy is part of the government's efforts to optimize funding sources outside routine fiscal mechanisms.
This directive aligns with the vision of President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who aims to provide affordable fuel priced at IDR 15,000 per liter for fishermen operating 30-200 GT vessels. This policy is expected to reduce the operational burden on medium-scale fishery business actors while boosting the productivity of the national marine sector.
This strategic move marks the government's commitment to maintaining the economic sustainability of fishermen without increasing the state's fiscal deficit, with the expectation that the program will run independently and sustainably.
