Efforts to improve the quality of clean water services in Padang City continue through the Gunung Pangilun Water Treatment Plant (WTP) rehabilitation project. Currently, the physical work has entered a crucial phase, namely the dismantling of the accelerator unit, which is the heart of the water purification process before it is distributed to residents' homes.
The dismantling process is being carried out in stages to maintain structural safety. The main focus at this time is the removal of the tube settler frames—a vital component that functions to accelerate the sedimentation of mud and dirt particles. To date, the technical team has reportedly successfully removed 8 out of the total 12 filter frame pieces.
Once all filter units are removed, the next step is a complete overhaul of the bottom support structure. This iron support structure has suffered severe corrosion due to decades of use. This condition is considered highly risky as the rusted structure can no longer withstand the heavy load of the water volume and filter components during daily operations.
For information, the accelerator unit plays a central role in ensuring water hygiene. Inside this circular tank, three treatment processes take place simultaneously: coagulation (mixing), flocculation (clumping), and sedimentation (settling). Therefore, this comprehensive repair not only focuses on replacing damaged parts but also serves as a total maintenance step to detect hidden damage and clean up mud deposits that are difficult to reach during normal operational periods.
