The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has officially appointed BPI Danantara as the main driver in the implementation of cross-border electricity trade cooperation with Singapore. This appointment was announced during the annual Leaders’ Retreat forum which brought together President Prabowo and Singapore's Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (6/7/2026).
In his press statement, President Prabowo emphasized that BPI Danantara's role is not limited to energy trade, but covers a broader trade ecosystem. This step is a concrete follow-up to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Keppel Electric and Danantara Indonesia, which is part of a total of 26 bilateral agreements successfully finalized during the meeting.
Overall, this cooperation includes 18 intergovernmental agreements and 8 business-to-business (B2B) agreements covering various crucial sectors, ranging from the economy, food security, to defense and security. President Prabowo assessed that this achievement reflects the deepening of increasingly strategic diplomatic and economic relations between Indonesia and Singapore.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) had previously highlighted that this clean electricity export is designed not just as an energy transaction, but as an attraction for global investment. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized that the government is finalizing the development of the Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK) regions as green industrial and high-tech hubs in Indonesia, supported directly by the availability of clean energy for both export and domestic needs.
