The Indonesian government has officially issued Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 12 of 2026, which regulates the granting of awards in the sports sector. This regulation is designed as a formal reference for showing appreciation to athletes, coaches, officials, as well as private entities and institutions deemed to have made significant contributions to advancing sports achievements in the country.
General Chairman of the Central National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI Pusat), Marciano Norman, positively welcomed the publication of the regulation. He assessed that this policy is concrete proof of the government's commitment to supporting the welfare and recognition of sports personnel who have striven to bring honor to the nation's name on the international stage.
According to Marciano, the success of athletes in raising the Red and White Flag and singing the Indonesia Raya national anthem is a symbol of national pride that elevates the nation's dignity in the eyes of the world. He emphasized that sports figures are national patriots who deserve more attention for their dedication and hard work in achieving success.
Furthermore, this policy is seen as a catalyst to boost motivation for sports development from the regional to the central level. Marciano invited all sports stakeholders, including provincial KONIs and governing sports bodies, to align their vision in achieving the Golden Indonesia target and supporting the superior human resource development vision outlined in President Prabowo Subianto's fourth Asta Cita.
Substantially, this Presidential Regulation is expected to create a more competitive and sustainable sports ecosystem. With a measurable and targeted reward system, the government is optimistic that the potential of national athletes can be continuously optimized to establish Indonesia as a respected sports power globally.
