The East Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kaltim) intensified its fight against illicit drug trafficking through Operasi Antik Mahakam 2026. In the operation conducted on Sunday (26/7/2026) in the early hours, joint officers targeted several nightlife venues in Balikpapan City and successfully detained a visitor suspected of carrying the drug ecstasy.
This raid was initiated by the Directorate of Drug Investigation of the East Kalimantan Regional Police, involving joint personnel, including support from the Military Police (PM) as a form of cross-agency synergy. Before heading to the targets, the readiness briefing was led directly by the Director of Drug Investigation of the East Kalimantan Regional Police as the Head of Operations (Kaops) for Operasi Antik Mahakam 2026, Senior Commissioner Romylus Tamtelahitu, accompanied by the Head of Operational Secretariat, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Fauzi Akhmad.
Officers swept two nightlife locations suspected of being prone to drug abuse. At these locations, the joint team conducted thorough identity checks and on-site urine tests for both visitors and employees to detect early indications of illegal substance use.
In the middle of the inspection at one of the entertainment venues, officers became suspicious of a visitor. After being searched, the visitor was found to be carrying items strongly suspected to be ecstasy pills. The police immediately secured the suspect to be taken to the East Kalimantan Police Headquarters (Mapolda Kaltim) for further investigation and case development.
Senior Commissioner Romylus Tamtelahitu emphasized that Operasi Antik Mahakam 2026 is a strategic step, both preventively and repressively, to suppress drug trafficking within the jurisdiction of East Kalimantan. He appreciated the dedication and professionalism of all personnel involved and urged the public to actively report if they suspect any drug trafficking activities in their environment.
