The search operation for two teenagers named Alifin and Yufaidin, who were reported missing for over a week on Mount Bismo, has finally come to a close. Both were found deceased by a team of volunteers and Wanadri at the bottom of a 200-meter-deep ravine on Sunday (12/7) afternoon.
The incident began when the two victims climbed Mount Bismo on Tuesday (30/6/2026) with very minimal supplies. According to Solichun, a Mount Prau ranger, the victims were suspected of getting lost on an unofficial trail or 'blank spot' before falling down a steep cliff whose terrain is covered in dense trees with minimal sunlight.
The joint SAR team faced major obstacles during the search process due to the extreme geographic contour of Mount Bismo's southern slope. Although the search operation was officially called off on Saturday (11/7), the Wanadri team continued searching until they successfully located the victims in a valley near Curug Tiga.
The evacuation process was dramatic and took until nightfall due to the difficult terrain and the bodies being located at a depth of 200 meters. The SAR team had to use rope rigging techniques to reach the location. The bodies, found some distance apart, indicated that both teenagers had passed away sometime before they were discovered.
Head of BPBD Wonosobo, Sumekto Hendro, stated that after the evacuation process was complete, the bodies were immediately taken to a local hospital for mortuary care procedures. Currently, both victims have been handed over to their families to be buried according to local traditions.
