The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has now become a crucial agenda in the transformation of the Islamic financial services industry. This technology is projected to boost operational efficiency, strengthen risk management, and accelerate product innovation for financial industry players in Indonesia, which is currently recorded as one of the largest Islamic ecosystems in the world.
However, the adoption of this cutting-edge technology must be accompanied by a firm commitment to governance, ethics, and compliance with Islamic principles. The main challenge is ensuring that digital efficiency remains aligned with the essential goals of Islamic finance, namely creating public benefit, justice, and sustainability for the broader society.
This strategic issue was a primary focus at the International Symposium on Islamic Finance 2026, initiated by Menara Syariah in collaboration with Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA). Carrying the theme 'Sustainability, Artificial Intelligence, and Maqasid al-Syariah in Finance', this forum serves as a collaborative platform for academics, practitioners, and scholars to formulate guidelines for AI implementation based on Maqasid al-Shariah.
Assistant Professor at UNISSA, Kamarussalam Yusof, emphasized that cross-border dialogue between academics and industry players is vital. According to him, the rapid dynamics of technology demand a continuous exchange of ideas so that financial practitioners are not only technically proficient, but also possess deep insights into contemporary Shariah issues.
Intensive discussions such as the one held in Jakarta are expected to open new horizons of thought for students and market players alike. The synergy between technological innovation and the Shariah ethical framework is considered a concrete step for the Islamic financial industry to remain relevant and highly competitive amidst the global digital era.
