BigBear.ai, a U.S.-based defense technology company, recently achieved a significant milestone in the global aviation security industry. Their flagship system, Pangiam Threat Detection, has received official certification from the Dutch National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism.
This meed/approval was granted after the system underwent intensive testing by the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) in The Hague. The technology was declared to meet Level 1 automated prohibited item detection standards, particularly when integrated with SureScan Corporation's CT DETECT 1000 scanner device.
As an artificial intelligence-based platform, Pangiam Threat Detection is designed to process 3D cabin baggage scans almost instantaneously. The technology assists security officers in identifying potential threats more accurately through automated decision support, remote security management, and auditing and training features for airport staff.
BigBear.ai CEO Kevin McAleenan welcomed this validation as a crucial step in building trust in the highly regulated aviation sector. According to him, the implementation of AI is not intended to replace officers, but rather to provide operational support amid increasingly complex security demands.
On the other hand, this achievement comes amidst the dynamics of BigBear.ai's (NYSE:BBAI) stock performance in the capital market. Although the company has managed to maintain fairly stable liquidity, financial records show that it has not yet turned a profit in the last twelve months. The approval in the Netherlands is expected to pave the way for broader collaboration with various international certification bodies in the future.
